We do not know much about this extraordinary man of God, the man of prayer, the missionary who devoted his life to serve Christ. The name of this man is Dixon Edward Hoste, the successor of Hudson Taylor as General Director of the China Inland Mission, and the first of the Cambridge Seven to apply to work with this mission. But despite of these great titles, this man chose to leave a very little memory about his persona because his life was not about him, but about Jesus.
Being educated at Clifton College and the Royal Military Academy, having a bright future and the best that the world could offer, one day Dixon Hoste realized that this life is not about nice things, but about true, living, almighty God. That realization has completely changed his life.
“The man who does not learn to wait upon the Lord and have his thoughts molded by Him will never possess that steady purpose and calm trust, which is essential to the exercise of wise influence upon others, in times of crisis and difficulty.” Dixon Edward Hoste
